OK, it's about an hour till midnight and I almost broke my New Year's resolution on day 3. But I'm still in it to win it, this post will just be short and sweet. I've got a couple of other great ideas for posts, just didn't get around to writing on the blog till late today. You know, it's been one of those busy work and family days.
Anyway, I had a lot of awesome moments with my family today. Kasey (15 years old) comes home from school and was so excited because he just found a Vice President for his company that he started. I'm so proud of him and know that he'll follow through and make this little company a success. By the way, if you're wondering, he's shoveling snow/ice in the winter, walking dogs all year long and mowing lawns in the spring/summer/fall. He just made up fliers and will be starting his customer search in our neighborhood tomorrow. I helped him with the idea and proofread the flier and I'm confident he's going to make it work. He was extra motivated when I showed him on a spreadsheet what his projected income could be if he worked hard at it....that's a lot of Xbox games :) Then there's Dylan (4 years old), he's at such a great age. He's so innocent and just talking to him and playing with him allows me to forget about the stress revolved around being a grown up. He was "ice skating" today in his snow boots in the driveway. He was actually sliding around on large sheets of ice (it snowed a few days ago and it's still freezing so lots of ice around) and having the time of his life. Us adults would think that's crazy dangerous but he's just out there trying to make a game out of it....ahhh to be 4 again. Last but certainly not least is my baby girl Caitlyn (2 years old). She's cute and adorable without even trying. Today, she made scrambled eggs with me. She was so proud at how much of a big girl she was because she was able to put the salt and pepper on the eggs and stir it up in the pan as they were cooking.
And I can't complete a post about things that bring me joy without mentioning my wife Rachel (forever 29 years old). She is everything to me, the best person I know and my closest friend. We were fortunate enough to grab lunch today, just the two of us. It was so awesome to just relax and laugh with her. It reminded me of the many great times we have had with each other and had me looking forward to everything we get to do together in the future. All in all, today was a great example of enjoying the ride.
I know you might think this is a pretty random post within a blog that's supposed to be about being debt free. But I wanted to make sure everyone realizes that although being debt free is the goal, it's not the most important thing. Besides, why is it so important to be debt free? For me, it's to enable myself the ability to spend my time with who I want to, when I want to. Debt freedom is just the enabler for that. And it definitely shouldn't be prioritized higher than what's most important. There's going to be a lot of stress and frustration throughout the journey. And depending on your current status, your journey could take awhile. So, make sure you're enjoying the ride. Otherwise, it's all for not anyway. I know I have to remind myself of this constantly and it's probably the main thing that keeps me motivated to keep going.
